FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What makes BareBones Creatine different?
It's creatine monohydrate and nothing else: no sweeteners, fillers or proprietary blends. Independent labs test it for heavy metals and microbes, and we publish the full reports so you can read them yourself. See the lab results.
What is creatine monohydrate?
A compound your body already makes and stores in muscle, used to recharge energy during short, intense efforts. As a supplement, it's one of the most extensively studied in sports nutrition. Learn how creatine monohydrate works.
Who is this creatine for?
Healthy adults who train: lifters, athletes, runners, beginners chasing a first pull-up, or anyone doing hard, repeated efforts. If you're under 18, pregnant, have a medical condition or take medication, check with your doctor first.
How much should I take?
One scoop (5 g) every day with water or your favorite drink. The commonly studied daily dose is 3–5 g.
Do I need to load creatine?
No, loading is optional. Some people take about 20 g a day for 5–7 days to fill their muscles faster. Taking 5 g a day reaches the same level in about 3–4 weeks.
When should I take it?
Whenever is easiest to remember. Consistency matters more than timing.
Should I take creatine every day?
Yes, including rest days, to keep your muscle stores full.
Do I need to cycle off creatine?
No. Creatine isn't a steroid or a stimulant. Research generally uses continuous daily dosing.
Will it make me bloated?
Most people do fine on 5 g a day. Some notice a small increase in body weight at first, mostly water stored inside the muscle. Bloating is more common with large loading doses, so starting at 5 g a day helps.
Does BareBones Creatine contain fillers?
No. The only ingredient is creatine monohydrate.
Is it third-party tested?
Yes. Our current batch (lot 2504023) was tested by Mission Mountain Laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025 accredited) for arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury and chromium, and by Daane Labs for microbes. All results met the specifications on the reports, and E. coli, Salmonella and Staph. aureus were negative.
Where can I see the lab results?
On our lab results page, with the full certificates of analysis and a plain-English explanation of every line.
How many servings are included?
100 servings of 5 g each.
What does micronized mean?
The creatine is milled into a finer powder so it mixes more easily. It's the same creatine monohydrate.
Is the creatine flavored?
No, it's unflavored, so you can mix it with anything: water, juice, coffee or a protein shake. Flavored versions may come later. If they do, they'll be clearly labeled and tested.
Where is it made?
BareBones Creatine is made in the USA.
Why don't you mix in pre-workout ingredients?
This version is just creatine, so you can stack it with anything. If we ever offer pre-mixed products, we'll be clear about what's inside and why.
